Auto Assault Previews

Four hands-on previews have hit the web for Netdevil and NCsoft's post-apocalyptic MMORPG, Auto Assault. The first is at GameSpot:
Auto Assault's combat system also seems extremely easy to pick up. You can currently have two primary weapons built onto your vehicle's chassis, each of which will radiate a "tac-arc," a glowing arc on the ground that essentially acts as a gunsight. If you have two weapons, you'll want to focus both arcs on your target to maximize your chances of hitting and dealing damage. However, as soon as you pull the trigger on your weapon, your hits and misses will be calculated using skill checks and other calculations you'd expect from a traditional role-playing game.

The second is at IGN PC:
In order to get to the action, players will have to begin in a starting area that will allow them the opportunity to adjust to controls in a relatively safe environment. From there, players will be able to enter a town. These towns are the only areas in the game where players will not be in a vehicle. This will act as the hub for those looking for a way to be social. Driving around while shooting enemies at 100 mph doesn't exactly make for easy communication with new people, so NetDevil wanted to make sure they had a kind of peaceful chat room where players could hang out while picking up needed equipment from NPCs, personalizing cars, or getting new missions. Towns will also obviously serve as a good meeting place for potential convoys (as groups are called).

The third is at GameZone:
While the game has some PvP areas, or will when it releases, the majority of the highways are PvE, with side exits that lead to instanced areas. But where Auto Assault scores bigger in the PvP aspect is when the player enters a city. Cities are safe zones from the vehicular mayhem that takes place elsewhere, but offer players a variety of other options, one of which is the arena. The arena will offer players the opportunity to compete for big rewards and cross-server compete. There will also be a ladder-ranking competition. Players can compete for not just top ranking on their server but across all servers. And there may be clan-versus-clan cross-server PvP action as well.

And the fourth is at Gamehelper:
There will be four possible classes for each race, also conveniently similar to pre-established fantasy classes. First we have the tank, who surprisingly, tends to drive tanks. There's your warrior class. Next up we have the officer, el summoner. Biomechs (the race we were shown today) get little robot pets for their officers. Then we have the engineers who drive the biggest vehicles and have the ability to repair, the paladin. And lastly, the rangers, who focus on stealth and quick little vehicles like motorcycles and dune buggies can be likened to well, rangers. or rogues.
