It's a virtual certainty that you will experience times when your primary objective is to gather gold; for instance, most characters will want to save up to buy a mount, which becomes possible upon reaching level 40. Although it's not a universally held opinion, most players will tell you that the quickest way to accumulate gold is to "farm" humanoid NPCs a few levels lower than your character, either alone or in a group of two.
