In World of Warcraft, the Mage class has a lot of long-distance firepower. This means it's great to have one or more in any party, but there are some other strong reasons as well. One is the Arcane Intellect buff, which can be cast on other party members, raising their maximum mana capacity for the greater of 30 minutes or until they die. This is obviously very helpful for any other class that relies on magic.
