EverQuest II Reviews

Three new positive reviews for Sony's EverQuest II have surfaced on the web over the past couple of days. The first is over at 3DAvenue:
To sum things up a little. EQII is an excellent game that makes a number of large steps forward in areas such as the voice overs, graphics, and overall involvement in combat etc but also was released too early. It has actually been hard to score this one because the potential is there and for the most part the game does shine, but I do have to knock marks off for things that are incomplete, such as the Artisan class. Should this game have been released properly, it would have scored in the 90's. If you are looking for a game that is very easy to get into and has a huge fantasy world to draw EQII is the one for you. If you are looking for, say, a huge revolutionary step forward in this genre, then quite frankly no game has gone to the next level yet. Everquest II is a game that is time consuming, but it is much easier to get a sense of accomplishment for even a single hours playtime than its predecessor.

The second is at WorthPlaying with an overall score of 8.2/10:
Overall, I feel SOE has delivered a respectable product. It's not as revolutionary as the original, but is addictive and fun. There always seems to be a goal that's (just out of your reach) that kept me interested in playing. It's also a radical departure from the original, so people who found fault with EverQuestmight want to give the sequel a try. While it doesn't push the genre into new waters, it does put a high level of polish on existing tenets. There were things about EverQuest 2 that bothered me (the shared XP debt for deaths incurred while grouping being the biggest), but they didn't take much away from my enjoyment of the game.

And the third is at LoadedInc with an overall score of 9/10:
EQ II is a welcome addition to the MMORPG market. However, any game that weighs in at 7 GB for an initial install begs the question of whether or not it is being unleashed on a market that may not be able to run it on their current machines. If you have a decent gaming rig, however, you should be fine. Just remember to shoot for the recommended specs if you want to have a good experience. With a few other titles to battle, most notably WOW, SONY has produced a polished product that certainly met my expectations and should keep the fan-base happy. With frequent updates, it is obvious that they are trying to get this title as far to the front of the pack as possible. Only time will tell just how (massive) this MMORPG game will become.
