Wish Interview

Wish Stratics has conducted an interview with Mutable Realms' Dana Massey and Matthew Newhook, asking the world designer and president quite a few questions about Wish in a four-page article. A snippet:
The newly announced (Rogue) has given rise to some confusion in a game that is to be skill based, not classed based. The idea of a thieving class in a non-PvP world tends to feel somewhat illogical as well. But, the developers not truly believe that the traditional (rogues) present in MMORPGs offered the options or excitement that a rogue should. In this vein, they have decided to completely rework the way rogues function. They will truly be thieves and bandits, but in the context of a title that is focused on PvE.

Any number of scenarios can be conceived of to allow a player to thieve and then become open to being hunted. They've mentioned the idea of the traveling caravan that is attacked and its contents stolen. The outcome of which success, success at theft but the driver gets away, being seen or caught will make the determination as to whether you gain criminal status or not. Another scenario could be that the ruler of one land wanting an artifact stolen from the castle of another. He may offer a reward to the one who brings it to him, but be known as the one who lifted it and you'll gain criminal status.

This brings Bounty Hunters into play. Players can obtain a list of criminals and can then hunt them for the bounty they carry. Rewards can then vary from the bounty itself to a reward for returning the bounty and xp for the PvP. Of course, you're not always a criminal. The severity of your crime will determine the length you're wanted for, as if you're assumed a lost fugitive after your flag expires.
