As your character grows in experience, he'll get new skill points that can be traded (along with a hefty amount of gold) to learn new skills. There are also separate training points that you can spend without the benefit of a trainer. These will allow you to increase your basic abilities, enhancing (among other things) strength, mana, damage from particular abilities or against particular enemies. There are a number of ways to improve your character here and progress, at the lower levels at least, is fairly rapid. Our party of three adventurers managed to reach fifth or sixth level within the space of a couple of hours...and that's including an hour or so of frivolous, perverted dancing.
