Double Dose of Pirates of the Caribbean Reviews

GameSpy has posted reviews for both the PC and Xbox versions of Akella and Bethesda's Pirates of the Caribbean. For the PC, the overall score was a mere 55%. A snippet:
The particular tragedy of this game, though, is that it didn't have to be this way. It's a sequel to a good game that could have been well integrated with a good license. Instead, it seems more likely Disney threw a treasure chest of doubloons at Bethesda to get the game at all ("What do you mean we've got no video-game tie-in?") and even more to get it out early ("This game has to be out when the movie releases!"). As for me, I'm going back to Tropico 2 and sending another e-mail to Sid Meier to please hurry with his Pirates! update.

The Xbox review scored a little higher, with an overall score of 65%. Check it out:
There is nothing more tragic than a truly amazing game being reduced to being only occasionally good because of completely preventable things like bugs. I pray that Bethesda releases an updated version of Pirates of the Caribbean in the future. It's a great game. I recommend it to any fans of Bethesda, any fans of pirate games, any fans of open-ended games ... but not yet. I'd wait a few months and see if an updated edition comes out, since you'll be otherwise stuck with a bug-ridden mess.
