Mark Jacobs Interview

There's a quick Q&A with Mark Jacobs of Mythic Entertainment over at Online Gaming (ogcan.com) that addresses a couple of the recent issues with SlowNewsDay.com and what Mythic's stance is towards a useful third party program for DAoC. Here's a snippet:

Q: Have you considered putting a 3rd party program system in place like Origin had with their UO Gold and UO Pro system? In short a way for users to know a program isn't going to get them banned? (I ask this because I'm the author of TradeHelper, I'd like it to be known that if Mythic ever considers a feature of any product I make to be an exploit, I will remove it immediately. I support the game and want to build on that community, not destroy it!)

A: I haven't considered it since I'm not familiar with the UO system. While we are against the use of any third-party program if someone has something that we don't consider a hack or exploit we might allow it or potentially even work with the author to integrate it into DAoC if we feel it would make a better game without hurting balance. I'm not familiar with TradeHelper but I'll head on over and check it out.
