Character Concerns

Gamer responds to the new character creation challenge:

At least in the NWN Community? Well here's your chance, a chance to have a NPC that you created actually appear in the official NWN game! Note that entries shouldn't be sent until May 1st (next Tuesday).

Best of luck to you all!

I've just read the guidelines and legal stuff. Not being a lawyer myself, i'd just like to make sure of one thing before I submit an NPC.
I will lose any and all rights to any character I submit, correct?
Please let me know if I'm mistaken.

To my knowledge the EULA for the actual game has not yet been drawn up. I haven't read over the details of the Contest's legalese yet but I'd guess that it's pretty standard boilerplate.

Just to put your mind at ease, it might be worth looking at the licensing agreements for Half-Life and The Sims. Both Valve and Maxis (the developers of those games) have been very supportive of fan content. They have even gone so far as to package and sell fan content on store shelves (Counter-Strike, Gunman Chronicles, both expansions to the Sims, etc) and then grant some form of royalties to the content creators. I don't know whether or not that's the path we'll ultimately take with Neverwinter, but if so, it might actually be a way for us to give a special thank you back to the fan community for all of their excitement and hard work.

    Ideas, ideas, ideas,
