Scripting Manual

Gamer asks about a possible scripting manual:

...While all of the scripting commands in NWN should be documented in the game, either in a printed manual or in a read me file or a hybrid of the two, it occurs to me that detailed tutorials on scripting for NeverWinter Nights will probably not be provided by BioWare.

I am talking extensive examples of the Big- Wooden-Spoon-and-the-temperature's-just-right variety.

A book, which does not simply document script commands, but teaches C and NWN scripting at the same time.

In fairness, I am not sure if you should be expected to both educate a user on script commands available in the game together with the ins and outs of programming scripts in C. There is a limit to what a game company can readily be expected to document within the game itself.

But if there is ANY upcoming game to be released that would profit from a highly detailed and illustrated 3rd party guide to design, scripting and using the game tools editor, then surely NWN is such a game.

Have you considered authorizing a third party manual (or even a BioWare manual) which would provide an involved and in depth guide to level design, NWN scripting, together with a tutorial on C as it applies to NWN?...

We will start opening up more about the scripting language as we get closer to ship. We have a habit of ripping things apart and reworking them so we're waiting until we're sure the language won't change too much before we release a ton of information.
