Skullstone Revealed

Eye of the Beholder, Dungeon Master, Stonekeep, Legend of Grimrock. All of these dungeon-crawling series invoke some fond memories from me, so I'm always interested in checking out any titles that follow a similar design and refer to these classics (LoG has become one, in my mind) as contributing to their inspiration. One such independently-developed game is Skullstone, a first-person RPG that looks to be coming along quite nicely, based on its IndieDB profile, Steam page, and teaser videos:

And here's the official description, which confirms the foundation you might expect. Player-created characters will certainly be missed, however:

Skullstone - a retro styled grid-based dungeon crawler RPG, inspired by the good old titles like Dungeon Master, Stonekeep, Eye of the Beholder and many other classics.

In few worlds - a party of heroes explore the dungeons. They fight with monsters, solve riddles, gather equipment, level up and improve their skills just to fight more tougher monsters. And of course there is a story behind it, which will be revealed later.

The most important thing is combat - player will encounter various types of monsters with different combat abilities, appearing one by one or in large groups. Monsters can perform melee, range or AoE attacks as well as debuff player's heroes lowering their fighting ability, immobilizing them and so on.

In Skullstone you won’t be able to customize your party members. Instead, you can choose from a big group (about 20-30) of pre-defined characters. Each hero will begin the game with a unique set of abilities and special active skills.

Thanks, Robert!
