How Bloodborne Beats the Narrative Design of Dark Souls

Cool Ghosts' Matt Lees has produced a roughly 25-minute video essay with which he attempts to explain why he believes Bloodborne beats Dark Souls in terms of narrative design. In the video he analyzes the game's usage of visual motifs, cutscenes, audio cues, enemy design and the way its themes and the player's motivations intermingle.

I don't agree with all the conclusions and I'm not quite as enamored with Bloodborne as Lees is, but it's an insightful watch (do note, however, that there are a few minor visual spoilers for the DLC, though Lees doesn't delve into the plot details of the game):
