Dark Souls Mobile Spin-off Slashy Souls Out Now

Bandai Namco has teamed up with GameStop to publish a mobile spin-off of the Dark Souls series, titled Slashy Souls, on Android and iOS, for free. The title is an endless runner that uses elements of the Dark Souls IP while technically not being part of the series, and so far its reception seems to have been less than positive, to use a euphemism. As for why the reception has been overhwelmingly negative so far, this snippet of gameplay from Polygon gives a good idea:
I haven't had the chance to try the title myself, and I suspect that a 1 out of 10 might be a disproportionately negative score, but I can't possibly imagine what kind of appeal this title might have for a fan of the Japanese action-RPG series. I'm confused, to say the least.
