I suspect that some of you have always played Commander Shepard as a woman throughout your Mass Effect playthroughs, but it is certainly interesting to get a window back in time through this animation posted by ex-BioWare animator Jonathan Cooper revealing that the very first testing of the series' main protagonist was as a female. He states:

Ten years ago this month, my very first anim test for Mass Effect. Yup, Commander Shepard was originally a woman.
