After Reset Launches on Kickstarter

Post-apocalyptic RPG After Reset has already shown up on Steam Greenlight, but now the Fallout-like indie title and its creators have taken the plunge and started up their own Kickstarter campaign to raise money for the game. Their current goal, with 28 days to go, is $900,000, which seems reasonable, and maybe even possible despite the general lack of games industry celebrities associated with the project.

You can see below for a snippet of some of the features being touted. You can also swing by their Kickstarter page to view a large collection of media (concept art and demo screenshots) and maybe even pledge if you like the look of it.
Hey guys, my name is Richard. I'm the creator and game director of After Reset RPG an old-school sci-fi apocalyptic roleplaying game inspired by such video games as Fallout 1/2, Baldur's Gate and Planescape: Torment.

Through this description I'd like to tell you about the game my team and I have been working on for more than a year. Since the announcement of Fallout: Van Buren has such a game taken center stage. Of course that game was never released, so we decided to fill in the gap. You see, After Reset was developed after a long line of gaming disappointments. Like you, we too experienced one dashed hope after another as we waited for the perfect Fallout: Van Buren substitute. We wanted to relive the emotions provided by adventuring in old-school RPG's. I'm sure that together we CAN build that theme park! With blackjack, caravans and hookers, of course! :)

And with these things in mind, After Reset is based on three pillars of the good old days of RPG you can expect:
  • A POST-APOCALYPTIC ATMOSPHERE, developed with scientific realism and with more places to explore than Fallout 1 and 2 together had;
  • A NONLINEAR STORY with freedom of choice and a ton of branches and endings, which influence the whole setting even beyond the game you play;
  • HARDCORE MECHANICS in the best traditions of DnD and SPECIAL, in which even the process of character creation stretches out into prolonged enjoyment.

Plot and story in games have always been my favorite component as a gamer. As such, I've always put it at the forefront of any adventures the gamers go through, myself being a long time Dungeon Master in Dungeons and Dragons. I honestly believe that we, gamers are different from other people in that we've been blessed to live many lives, receiving in return more real experience points. :)

In working on the plot of After Reset RPG, I've considered three main parts:

First is personal story, allowing us to create and live through an especially personal story in the world of the game. My main inspiration here is, of course, Baldur's Gate 1.

Secondly, companions' stories, often no less unique and interesting, through which your character simultaneously goes through his own evolution, adding to your personal emotional experience. Here I got my idea without a doubt from the depth and interest level of the companions' stories of Planescape: Torment.

And finally, third is nonlinear freedom of choice. And here, my obvious favorites are Fallout 1 and 2. To this nonlinear freedom of choice for my game I'd like to add only the emotion from The Walking Dead: The Game and Knights of the Old Republic.
