Underrail Preview

Underrail is looking like an interesting indie title for fans of Fallout and Wasteland, and this preview from Greenlit Gaming should help you discover why. Here's a snip:
Underrail is a turn based isometric role playing game that sits upon the shoulders of classics like Fallout, Neverwinter Nights and System Shock 2. The game's premise is that the Earth's surface is no longer habitable, and in a last ditch attempt to survive, humanity has holed up in the underground rail systems. With no proper government to rule over the last bastion of humanity, the people have naturally grouped into factions, and you find your character in the midst of the clashes and espionage between these rivaling factions.

The RPG elements are immediately apparent in the character creation screen, where you can choose feats or perks as well as different specializations for weapons, psi powers, thievery other various abilities. You can customize your character to be sneaky and stealthy, rarely ever actually going into combat unless necessary, or be a gunslinging, rockets blasting, world of fiery pain for your adversaries. Underrail uses the well established system that both Fallout and Neverwinter Nights (Based on Dungeons & Dragons 3rd edition ruleset)* used for the character creation and the overlaying game mechanics.

* I'm not sure why they list Underrail and Fallout as based on the D&D 3rd ed. ruleset or if that's just worded badly, but Underrail uses a proprietary rule system as far as I can tell, and Fallout used the SPECIAL system made for the title.

EDIT: The editors at Greenlit Gaming have clarified that Underrail uses mechanics in the same style of Neverwinter Nights and Fallout, not either game's ruleset.
