Drox Operative Reviews

We have rounded up two more reviews for Soldak Entertainment's 4x/hack'n'slash hybrid Drox Operative, offering two different outlooks on the title.

EGM NOW is hardly enthusiastic, 6.0/10.
All in all, Drox Operative has enough behind it to keep fans of the genre happy for at least a few games. The negotiation and combat are solid, but if you're planning on spending any serious time on it, then you might be better served with one of the several other options available in the market. A distinct lack of game modes and a grind-fest that would make Diablo proud add up to a short but sweet space adventure that will soon be forgotten.

Drox Operative has a solid base and an incredibly advanced AI at its heart. It basically ticks all the boxes for the genre, but the later level grinding will suck your soul dry, leaving all but the most hardcore of players wanting something more.

While GamerTell is much more supportive of Soldak's efforts, and awards it an A-.
As an indie game, I have to cut Drox Operative some slack for not having a team of developers working for a year or more. In that vein, there a few minor bugs here and there, and some balance issues. The bugs are easily worked around or avoided. The balance issues are mostly addressed through the amazing design of the game. As you win (and it's quite possible, sometimes even your best move, to lose) a system, you move on to the next system, and you can set the difficulty for the next game in several ways to give a more fair challenge. Players ready for some original and good game ideas, and don't mind the lack of (big game A title) refinements should definitely give Drox Operative a look.
