XCOM: Enemy Unknown Preview

Press2Reset is offering what looks like a hands-on preview for Firaxis' XCOM: Enemy Unknown, a multi-platform "re-imagining" of the 1994 X-COM title that differs from the current trend of reboots in that the game isn't actually of another genre compared to the original. Here's a snippet:
When in ground combat, the game is a more traditional turn-based title using an isometric view when moving units and a third-person view when units are executing actions. XCOM uses animations and camera movements during battle to create a very cinematic feel. For those who played Valkyria Chronicles on the PS3, it offers a similar kind of experience. The environments are also destructible and offer varying degrees of cover, represented by a shield on the screen. There is a lot going on, but it didn't feel overwhelming by any means and the turn-based approached really allows for you to plan and execute complex strategies.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown also employs a real-time strategy element through its world map and XCOM headquarters. From the world map you can manage resource production, disperse funds and interact with governments. From XCOM headquarters you can promote officers, equip units, develop technology and observe the activities of the XCOM personnel. There is a lot of variety in how to manage XCOM on both a global and local scale.
