DeathSpank: The Baconing Reviews

We have rounded up a couple more reviews for Hothead Games' The Baconing, the latest humorous hack'n'slash to star DeathSpank as its main character, which has garnered mixed reviews so far, this batch being no different.

The A.V. Club, B-.
This is the third DeathSpank title in a little over a year, so it's only natural that Hothead Games' hustle is flagging. But questing and combat problems aside, there are some truly inspired environments here, like the interior of an obsolete super-computer and the home of a literally nuclear family. Those, combined with more tip-top voice acting courtesy of Michael Dobson, are enough to give some punch to this parody, even if the joke's starting to wear a little thin.

Console Domination, 6.5/10.
When you boil it all down, The Baconing is a humorous, entertaining game with a slightly tougher learning curve than the two prior series entries. It is still a solid, if frustrating action RPG title that will afford you 10-12 hours of game play if you give it a half a chance. Unfortunately, this is certainly the weakest entry in the series to date and although DeathSpank fans will find themselves right at home and undoubtedly garner a few hours of enjoyment, but for its asking price, those who are new to the series are probably better off checking out DeathSpank's previous instalments.

Geared for Gamers, 8.5/10.
The Baconing is a great, fun-loving adventure filled with humor and silliness. Complimented by its unique art style and creative spin on the Action-RPG formula, its more than worthy of the $15 admission price. If you are a fan of DeathSpank you probably already picked this game up, but if you haven't, give it a whirl and try the demo out, now available through the PlayStation Network, Steam, and the Xbox Live Marketplace.

Gamedot, 6/10.
So if you're a fan of the series I suppose you've already bought it, or are close to making up your mind. If you haven't played either of the two games before this, there is no genuine reason you should start to care now. It's purely for those who either like the dumb humour or have played the previous titles in the Deathspank trilogy. However if The Baconing does sound like your thing, check out the first game first and play through the series.
