Final Fantasy XIV Partially to Blame for Square Enix Losses

Adriansang reports that, while talking to investors, Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada attributed about 4.5 billion of Square Enix's recent financial losses to Final Fantasy XIV's reworking and the cancellation of multiple titles. While it's obviously not clear just how much the Japanese juggernaut franchise's MMO is responsible for those losses, what's sure is that between this and the abysmal critical reception (49 on Metacritic) the title fell short of Square Enix's (and many gamers') hopes.
