World of Darkness Preview

I suppose it only makes sense that CCP's World of Darkness is an MMORPG that's still almost completely shrouded in mystery to this day, but if you want to check out what is known about the game up to this point, this preview of Gamer Gaia should do the trick.
What we also know about WODO is that, it won't be a solo adventure. Unlike many other MMOs, WODO will focus on factions, their political dialogues and territorial clashes from start. Just like the original setting of White Wolf. Since it is a very much mature environment, we will also see gay/lesbian bars, sexual content and other mature themes. So far, so good. I would literally shed into tears if CCP tried to go casual, just for the sake of stealing some 13 years old World of Warcraft player. World of Darkness is an occult place and it is not meant for children to wander there.

Another good news is that CCP people planning on applying a permanent death to the gameplay system. Will they have a server with this option or will it be a fixed part of the game, we don't know yet. Perhaps, they will show us some stuff at this year's E3.

It is also one of the plans to keep the game as much as PvP oriented as they can. CCP willing to keep this game player based and hoping to create that dark, political atmosphere. If they can do that, they can count me in as a permanent player. I loved the schemes and twists in EVE Online's player base. Only if the game was a bit easier to learn! CCP is not planning to add many quests to the game, perhaps only a few to create some adaptation room for new comers. Player driven world and dynamic updates are what they plan to implement and anything that gives us the chance to shape the world is great in my book.

We said that the game will be mature oriented, as expected from the game setting, and developers underlining the fact that it will not be a World of Warcraft clone. No meaningless, XP oriented quests or anything. It will be about interaction. The game is not based on combat but players will be able to go for a combat focused character, as well as a social based one. As you know, in the world of Vampire: The Masquerade, you are under the rules of Masquerade, a common understanding in between the clans to hide their presence from normal humans. Therefore, cunning politics and leadership is much more important than attacking anything that moves and sucking them dry of their blood. As of this moment, we are unsure if players will be able to select any other characters besides Vampires, like humans and ghouls.
I'm looking forward to this far more than any other MMO, hands down.
