Deus Ex: Human Revolution Interview

Two new interviews on Deus Ex: Human Revolution, both with game director Jean-Francois Dugas, have appeared online. Wire Jacked has a fairly short interview.
WJ: What type of character is Adam Jensen? Is he more of a White Knight, or a Dark Avenger?

Dugas: He's loyal but a somewhat sarcastic blue collar guy who is driven by justice and truth. So, I think he's a mix of both.

WJ: There seems to be a variety of converging themes in DEHR. What would you say is the predominate one? Transhumanism?

Dugas: I think we touch on different things from the moral and ethical aspects of transhumanism to what motivates people to do what they do. Control is also an important theme in the game.
PS3Center gets a bit more indepth in its interview.
PCN: It's important to note that this is a kind of prequel to Deus Ex, so it will be easy for those who've never played a Deus Ex before to get into the game. With that said, will we see any information regarding UNATCO and JC Denton and his brother?

JFD: The game happens about 25 years before the first one. It's not really a direct prequel to the original game per se. We have a brand new cast of characters and story, so, you don't have to have played the old games to make this one engaging; it stands on its own. Of course, there will be hints at the original game, but for those without experience with the Deus Ex franchise, it definitely won't diminish their experience in any way.

PCN: Graphically, this game looks amazing, but did you guys intentionally make Adam Jensen resemble Art Director Jonathan Jacques-Belletete, or was that just a coincidence?

JFD: It's totally a coincidence and a long story. At the beginning of the project, we had to prepare our concept document for a validation meeting and we didn't have a main character yet or even a name. His name at the time was "the main player character". Nevertheless, we wanted to have a first stab at creating one. Then, one day, quickly, we took a picture of Jon, because he's the good looking art director and one of our artists painted over him to create something. In the end, there were still some similarities to Jon, but not as many. Over the years, the character has evolved to what we know today, but Jon wasn't the reference anymore. However, Jon's style change over the years, he grew a beard, etc., making him look very close again to our main character. So, I would say that Jon has influenced Adam Jensen at first, but in the end, Jensen influenced Jon's look, LOL!!! (he's going to be mad at me ahahahahahahahah!!)
