There's a brief Q&A with an unnamed Turbine employee on Buffed, with fistful of questions dealing with the game's Book 3: Echoes of the Dead update and transition to a free-to-play business model. Two million new users and counting:
buffed: The switch to the hybrid model happened a few months ago. How pleased are you with the progression of the game since then? Was it the right choice to go free2play? Could it have been implemented any better?

Turbine: The transition to our hybrid model (Free or VIP) has been outstanding, and attracted over 2 million players to register in North America alone. Players have the choice to pay and play as they wish, and enjoy Middle-earth! Of course we can always improve the model we're constantly learning and adjusting.
