Unconfirmed: Guillermo Del Toro Working on RPG Trilogy

According to this report on MMOMFG, famed movie director Guillermo Del Toro has teamed up with THQ to develop a trilogy of role-playing games with Lovecraftian themes that are "along the lines of Mass Effect". Word is that the first title will be announced at Spike TV's VGA event in December:
...via an anonymous source close to the project's development, we can tell you that the game set to be revealed at next month's VGA awards will be the first in a trilogy of RPGs.

Del Toro's position at THQ is now well known and just yesterday several reports surfaced that the director was meeting with studio Volition in their Illinois offices. Our source has confirmed that Del Toro was in the office yesterday and revealed plans for a trilogy of games (along the lines of Mass Effect.) Earlier reports of Lovecraftian themes in Del Toro's games have also been confirmed.

We have also learned that the plot of these games will center on inter-dimensional travel, with the player tasked with investigating and checking open portals that must be closed.
I'm fine with Lovecraftian themes and inter-dimensional travel, but do we really need more Mass Effect?
