The Deus Ex: Human Revolution press event coverage continues with a preview on 411mania, an interview with game director Jean Francois Dugas on 411mania, and an audio interview with lead audio designer Steve Szczepkowski on Platform Nation. From the 411mania Q&A:
JDL: (laughs) So how about the conversation system and the Boss Conversations? How did that come together?

JFD: It was important that we make this part of the game as cerebral and psychological as possible. When the player talks to an NPC, they should feel like it's a real conversation!

As for the Boss Conversations, they provide different experiences for players. Even if you don't pass a Boss Conversation you still get a different cut scene or a different bit of information that you wouldn't get had you passed.
Game elements being described as "cerebral" in 2010? That's impressive in itself.
