Arcania: Gothic 4 Reviews

Arcania: Gothic 4 is the subject of two more reviews, with this latest pair being slightly more positive than the others we've seen.

E4G gives it an 8.3/10:
Overall the easiest way to describe this game is to compare it to other RPG's of recent times, such as Fable 2 or 3 and Dragon Age: Origins. While I personally didn't find Dragon Age too much fun, Arcania seems to find it's why in between Fable and Dragon Age for a nice balance. To be honest, it's leaning towards the Fable side of things and it's quite a blast to play. Spending several hours in pursuit of unknown assailants and countless quests really manages to keep you entertained and focused on the task at hand. If you're an avid fan of RPG's and are interested in a new one to pick up, Arcania: Gothic 4 is definitely one to check out.

While Front Towards Gamer gives it a 7.5/10:
I am really torn with my final thoughts about this game. The first 5 hours or so are completely made up of boiler plate RPG elements. There are times when I was in love with the game, but it's flaws are hard to ignore. While it may not be perfect, there is enough good here to make this game worth playing. The atmosphere is excellent, and play sessions are always enjoyable. RPG fans may not find this to be the deepest game on the market, but it still has more RPG in it than Mass Effect 2. It might always look the prettiest, but it still looks nicer than the latest Halo game on the Xbox. It's not the best, but there is far worse games on the market. I have to recommend this game to RPG fans; it's delightful despite its blemishes.
