Throne of Bhaal is the expansion pack of Baldur's Gate II, and continues the storyline of Shadows of Amn, finally bringing the Bhaalspawn's tale to a close. In addition to concluding the story, Throne of Bhaal incorporates several new locations into Baldur's Gate II, including the city of Saradush and the Marching Mountains, and a new dungeon area, Watcher's Keep, intended for experienced characters (and their players).
The storyline revolves around a war within the nation of Tethyr, which has been started by five other surviving Bhaalspawn, children of the Lord of Murder. The player must set out to defeat the Bhaalspawn behind these events, and eventually must decide his or her own fate. Throne of Bhaal also sees the return of Sarevok, the villain from the first Baldur's Gate, and features a few gameplay enhancements, raising the level cap even higher, allowing players to achieve near-divine character levels.
