Main Quest: Seeking Karamiklan's Wisdom

Walkthrough

For this quest you'll need to talk to Karamiklan in Alundar's Dungeon, which is located underneath Alundar's palace in Alundar's Domain. To get to Karamiklan, you'll need to figure out the codes required to open a pair of gates (#1). You'll get clues for these codes when you examine the pedestals in the side rooms (#2, #4).

For the first gate, you'll need to determine "the sum of a man's valor." To calculate this, you'll need to enter each valor room (#3) and examine the picture that you'll find there. Each picture has a caption that includes a number. The code is simply the sum of the three numbers: 1001 + 1800 + 750 = 3551.

For the second gate, you'll need to determine "the removal of all fear from the totality of valor." To calculate this, you'll need to enter each valor room (#3) and each fear room (#5) and examine the picture that you'll find there. Each picture has a caption that includes a number. The code is simply the sum of the valor numbers minus the sum of the fear numbers: (1001 + 1800 + 750) - (100 + 658 + 10) = 3551 - 768 = 2783.

Past the gates you'll encounter Karamiklan (#6), but don't walk up to him right away. Starting a conversation with Karamiklan will lock you in to the end-game battle sequence, so make sure you've completed all the shopping, alchemy and quests that you want to do first.

When you talk to Karamiklan, he'll reveal that he has the fourth crux stone, the Crux of Wisdom, and that he's been working with Malkur all along. Learning this will earn you 3000 xp. Malkur and Eurbor will then show up, and a Total Recall-ish scene will play out, where each will claim that you started out working for them. You'll then have to decide who you want to support: Erubor (and prevent the cataclysm) or Malkur (and let the cataclysm happen).

Once you've made your choice, the final battle will start up, where you and your allies will have to fight five waves of enemies. If you sided with Erubor, then you'll have to defeat Goblin Archers (400 xp) and Goblin Soldiers (400 xp), Taurax Legionnaires (450 xp) and Goblin Soldiers, Skeletal Archers (100 xp) and Skeletal Marauders (125 xp), Phoenixes (400 xp) and Taurax Spearmasters (375 xp), and finally Malgaelor, a dimensional eye (10,000 xp). If you sided with Malkur, then you'll have to defeat Dwarven Loyalists (200 xp), Rangers (400 xp), Dark Steel Mercenaries (800 xp), Dwarven Loyalists again, and finally Xaphus, a dimensional eye (10,000 xp). Your allies and enemies will be evenly matched, so you'll only need to participate in the battle a little to guarantee your side a victory. Once that happens, the closing cinematic will play and the game will end. Congratulations for completing Eschalon: Book III!
