One of the greatest fantasy role-playing video games ever created, Baldur's Gate would be a ridiculously difficult game to adapt given how extensive its story line is. The story follows the journey of the player along the Sword Coast of the Forgotten Realms as he grows up in the citadel of Candlekeep following the cataclysmic Time of Troubles. Learning of a mysterious, impending threat, the character is forced to flee after his father is murdered and he is constantly assailed by would-be assassins throughout the course of the game. He eventually finds out that his half-brother Sarevok is behind all of this and must be stopped before he ascends as the next god of murder. Ok I'm doing a terrible job of summarizing the plot but think about how epic Lord of The Rings was and you can see the potential Baldur's Gate has.

It's the year 2277. The world has been devastated by decades of war among nations due to the global petroleum shortage. This eventually culminated in a nuclear holocaust that caused human civilization to completely collapse and the world to devolve into a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Only a few survivors are still alive and you are one of them, barely subsisting in an underground vault. After your father vanishes, you escape and explore the gorgeously haunting post-apocalyptic landscape looking for him and battling nuclear mutants. Post-apocalyptic tales are always popular in Hollywood and this game has an extensive plot behind it that would make for a great series of movies in the right hands.

Another game that could make for a potential great science-fiction movie is Bioshock. The main character is Jack, a plane crash survivor who finds himself in a dystopian underwater city called Rapture. His quest to escape is made difficult by the fact that Rapture has devolved into a state of complete chaos after severe civil strife. Enveloped in a creepy, surrealistic atmosphere, the story also contains strong scientific themes as the local populace has been genetically mutated by scientific breakthroughs in biotechnology and engineering. In all, it's an intricate and involving story that shouldn't be spoiled here but the potential for a movie is obvious. They could even do a prequel about the beginning of Rapture and how it degenerated into the rotting city it became.
