Background

You are heading south toward the city of Stonebridge. In order to reach the city, you will have to pass through a great swamp, which lies between Stonebridge and the Rukkenvahl.


Walkthrough

Enter the Eastern Swamp

You'll receive this quest from Odo in the Legion Chapterhouse (#1) after completing the quest The Battle for Raven's Rill. As you make your way south from the chapterhouse, you'll pass by the Heroes' Crypt (Exit A). The crypt is involved in two side quests (Heroes of Old and Relics of Another Age), and you'll be able to pick up at least two unique items for your character while you're inside, so it's a worthwhile place to stop.

As you make your way to the swamp, you'll also run into a pair of people:

• Katarina (#2). If you're not playing Katarina, then you'll run into Katarina here, and she'll become available as a companion. If you're playing Katarina, then you'll meet Lucas in the Bioluminescent Caves (#5), and he'll become available as a companion instead.
  
  
• Leopold (#3). He'll inform you that the royalists are fighting Jeyne Kassynder's men nearby.

You'll complete this objective when you reach the avalanche (#4).

Find Another Route Through the Swamp

Because of the avalanche (#4), you'll have to travel through the Bioluminescent Caves (Exit B) to reach the swamp. Inside the caves, you'll finally encounter some of Jeyne's men, but they won't attack you in large numbers, and so they shouldn't pose much of a problem. You'll complete this objective when you exit the caves and arrive at the Swamp Battlefield.

Talk to the Royalist Leader

You'll find Lord Devonsey, the royalist leader, in the center of the camp (#6). When you talk to him, you'll complete the quest and earn 368 xp. You'll also trigger your next main quest, The Root of the Matter.
