Trask is the very first NPC in the game that will offer to join your party. He will alert you to the fact that Bastila's ship, the Endar Spire, is under attack and that you must try to help Bastila escape.
In addition to helping you defeat some of the initial Sith you will encounter in the Endar Spire, Trask Ulgo provides you with a summary of how to do many of the tasks that you'll need to accomplish your mission, such as using the Security skill on locked doors, equipping items that you find, and using important equipment (such as Medpacs). Unfortunately, he goes to battle a Dark Jedi just before you leave the Endar Spire and is never seen again.
