After years of wandering far and wide, Dhana and I have finally come to a region in which my reputation seems not to have preceded me. The Tarnel Woods, a small sleepy valley, and in its center lies the town of Tallon. I have passed myself off as a merchant and bought a house here, where I can pursue my studies in peace. The Tallonese are good-hearted people, and they welcomed us with open arms. Yes, I think that we could finally be happy here.

This valley is revealing itself to be a genuine goldmine. In the sanctuary at Prenn's Grove is a holy apple tree that is dedicated to the goddess Peraine. Naturally, the votaries do not wish to conduct any commerce with the fruit of the holy tree, but its presence also seems to be having an effect on the quality of the fruit of the other apple trees in the vicinity. The apple wine that the people here make is of the finest quality, and I'm surprised that no one else besides me has thought about exporting it. When I have built up a good trade route with Dhana's help, then the problem of financing my studies will be a thing of the past forever.

During one of my exploratory rounds in the valley, I discovered a hidden cave not far from Prenn's Grove. I'll set up my laboratory there. The merchant business may be a pleasant and lucrative way to pass the time, but I can hardly wait to resume my studies again, finally. I told Dhana of my plan and she has the same point of view that I do. I had already feared that she might have reservations, for it could cause us to be driven away again as a result. But she knows me and understands how important these studies are to me.
