All of the "super-duper special hand-made" items are worthless or nearly so, plus you can't even sell them for what you paid to have them forged! The silver sword, for example, has a 25% chance of outright kill but the speed factor is 10 so you swing it v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y. You can't even sell the ...

I played BG1 and TOSC a looong time ago.

Coot: Morrowind, to me, just wasn't realistic ... the people didn't look like people ... and I found the play interface to be awkward.

Planescape Torment sounds like a possibility; I'll check it out.

Thanks for the replies.

Anything good out there?

Is there anything out there that comes close to BG2? I've been keeping an eye on the market and there sure doesn't seem to be much available. I tried NWN and Morrowind (yaaaawwwwn); I've been following CNET's reviews and X-Play on TechTV but most of what they review seems to be console-based and ...

Technical Problem

After playing BG2 forever, I suddenly cannot load any games and get this message after I click "Load Game":

"An Assertion failed in InfScreenLoad.cpp at line number 1428"

I have no idea what that means.

I can't even FIND InfScreenLoad.cpp (and probably wouldn't know what to do with/to it if I ...

Geez, Tolwyn, are you the BG2 police? I've used Dragon's Breath several times on both Kangaxx and the other demi-lich in Watcher's Keep; trust me ... it works. :p

I've played as a solo assassin and had no memorable problems with talking to people. Keep in mind that opponents can be blue-circled and you can still backstab them. Their last thought is what nasty thing they're going to say when they see you. :)

Killing Kangaxx Demi-Lich

I just happened to read some old posts describing all kinds of cheesy ways to win this fight. A perfectly "legal" way to kill this critter is with a single Dragon's Breath (just one ping, Vasiliy). :)

Admittedly, you must have a high-level Mage/Sorceror in your party (there are no scrolls or ...

I was frustrated by these guys, too. When I posted a few months ago, I was told it was a bug in the game.(shrug)

I just lead them into a room and slam the door; I'm not going to waste time and effort on them any more.

Never mind. The Bioware forum had a good description and I finally figured it out.

What threw me was that all I had to do was connect to my ISP and it would work. I thought I had to connect to a specific website somewhere and I couldn't figure out what it was. Weird. (shrug)

Creating A Party

I have heard and read that there is a way to create an entire party and then play a "single player" game with that party. Well, I must be as dumb as a rock because I can't figure out for the life of me how to do it.

I searched this forum and found some "instructions" about selecting "serial port ...

solo assassin question

Has anybody successfully negotiated Watcher's Keep as a solo assassin?

I entered as a level 30-something (use any item, variety of traps, etc.), made it through the first 2 levels fairly easily and thought I was hot stuff ... then I got to level 3 (the maze of rooms) and had my head handed to me ...

The jailor is only good for the key to get to Mazzy. To open the "door" you need the light gem in the SW corner of that area. After it's fried the shadows, just take it and the "door" will open when you click on it.

To my knowledge, there's no way to add to this skill at "level up"; you can increase finding and disarming traps but not setting them, which is odd because it's a very useful skill.(shrug)

Setting Traps

Is there anything in the game, besides the Mercykiller Ring, that will improve trap-laying skill? I've gone through the equipment list but maybe I missed something. Even with 21 dexterity, I can't get my skill above 40, which requires a LOT of reloading.

grrrrrrrrrrrrr

I have found the single most frustrating and aggravating thing in this game . . . backstabbing. The REALLY frustrating thing is that I'm not getting any better at it !! If I'm one millimeter off, nothing happens; I realize that it's not supposed to be easy but it shouldn't be nearly impossible ...

Thanks for the replies.

I'll keep corners in mind ... getting to those corners without being seen is often the problem.

I've also noticed those NPC backstabs; it's amazing how they appear / cream you / disappear / reappear and cream you again, all before you can even use a heal potion!

Questions About Assassins

In order to use Hide In Shadows, you must be out of sight of any opponents, regardless of your Hiding skill level. True?

If there's no way to get out of sight, you have no choice but to (a) stand there and die or (b) use one of the very limited number of potions or the once-a-day ring to go ...

Giving Up On Solo Assassin

I have concluded that this is just an exercise in frustration.

I can't hit anybody!! I just swung 36 times before finally hitting my opponent.

I'm level 14 with stats of 19, 21, 18, 21, 18 and 20 (including mind-focus and equipment) but my THACO, even with a +3 sword, is still 8!! I just swing ...
