Questions About Assassins

Post by Graeye »

In order to use Hide In Shadows, you must be out of sight of any opponents, regardless of your Hiding skill level. True?

If there's no way to get out of sight, you have no choice but to (a) stand there and die or (b) use one of the very limited number of potions or the once-a-day ring to go invisible. True?

Do you have to be EXACTLY behind an opponent for a successful backstab? If so, how do you tell if you're EXACTLY behind him?

At what level do assassins start getting their "special abilities"?

What does Move Silently do/accomplish? Does it relate to some other skill or ability?

1) True

2) Or (c) run until you are out of sight to try hiding again. Corners help.

3) Sometimes it can happen while a little to the side, but as a rule you have to be exactly behind. You can't tell it other than seeing it in the screen, and sometimes it does not work. Hide and try again.

4) If you mean ToB abilities, around 24.

5) I may be mistaken, but Hide in Shadows governs your chance to ENTER stealth mode, and Move Silently your chance to REMAIN at it

There's a lot of invis potions available as well as at least 2 rings. If you have tactics installed, the supply is really huge thanks to those Black Sun feebs (I'm part way through chapter 2, haven't bought one potion & I have more than 50 in stock) Corners certainly do help.

The behind thing & spacing for backstabs is tricky, in my experience. Sometimes backstabs just don't work, and the reason is not always clear. Some creatures, including those with innate true sight cannot be backstabbed. Annoyingly enough, NPCs can backstab you from the front. Repeatedly.

High level abilities for everyone begin at the first level up after 2.95 Million total Experience points, whether single, dual or multi-classed.

Hide/Move are certainly linked in stealth. Leonardo's formula sounds plausible. In any case, you need both skills to be a succesful sneak.
I have given up all lesser evils as inadequate to my purpose.

Thanks for the replies.

I'll keep corners in mind ... getting to those corners without being seen is often the problem.

I've also noticed those NPC backstabs; it's amazing how they appear / cream you / disappear / reappear and cream you again, all before you can even use a heal potion!
