Quests and the console

Post by Pilotlight »

Through no obvious fault of my own, I've failed one quest (Deliver morphine to Mercurio) and missed out on another (Investigating the plague for Strauss).

I'm wondering specifically if its possible to activate or regress these quests, and more generally, what are the useful commands to monkey around with quest stages?

Poking around the net for an hour or so didn't turn up much. I discovered the VDATA folder with the quest files for the various locations around the game, but I can't find much by way of commands to manipulate them.

Any info you good people can provide would be awesome. Be it described here or even just a link to someplace on the net that I have overlooked; either way, I'd be grateful.

Oh, and I can't believe this game has such a following this far into the 21st century! :D

The morphine thing I didn't think you could fail, at all. Unless the failure is triggered when you go from one area to another.

I assumed that Mercurio would be whimpering on his couch until he got the drugs, but it isn't so. I waited to collect the morphine due to low lockpicking, and to my surprise, he was alive and well on the beach in Santa Monica. At this point I checked the logs and saw I'd failed the quest.

I can't recall how far along I was in the main quest line, but I think it was just before or just after the museum quest. Somewhere in there is a trigger that advances Murcurio's game state regardless of his pain. Maybe he had a stock of vampire blood for just such an occasion. ;)

You don't have to have a great lock picking skill to get morphine. There is a key you can get to get into Malcom's office. Although you do need to have some persuasion skill, to get into the back of the Blood Bank. (This is for the Thin Blood quest for E to complete). The way to get the key is go through the laundry, go up the ramp to the steps. Before going through the double doors, turn left, go into the room there, the key should be right there. Go out the doors, turn left, and open the doctor's office, and you have 3 morphine bottles there. See, no lock picking skill needed.

Well, thanks. I wasn't asking for a quest walkthrough, but your suggestion is appreciated. :)
