First and foremost: Don't break the masquerade. It's never necessary to do so, and keeping the masquerade intact will keep you unbothered by god's misguided servants.
If you accidentally break it, either reload a previous save or do some of the quests that offer a masquerade redemption.

As far as fighting them goes, luring them into a dark alley and mopping them up with disciplines and ranged/melee weapons (whichever you've been specializing in) has always worked pretty well for me. ;)
Hope that helps. :)

Jack warned you about them. Remember looking thru the window at the sabbat ? He said, "Thats how not to act. So your a big, bad Vampire. Great. Keep it to yourself."
Your getting beat up by your own lunch. Get them to follow you into the alley by the pawn shop or behind the wall by the Empire. If you have a Brawl +5 just feed on them.

If you are playing a Nosferatu make sure you stay away from people on the streets and outdoors. You don't have to use Obfuscate when you are running around the cities, just stay far enough away from people.

Don't feed on people or rats in the open. Make sure no one else is around.

Don't use flashy disciplines (Animalism, Celerity (high-level), Protean (?), and Thaumaturgy) in masquerade zones (check the icon above your health bar).

Can you get into your apartment via the sewers? Try exiting the sewers via the manhole in the alley next to your hideout.

Fun with hunters

Hit them with ranged weapons if melee isn't your thing. Or hit them with long-range disciplines like thaumaturgie, presence, dominate or animalism -all of these work pretty well too. I actually try to attract them in Santa Monica, so i can get myself that nifty torch early in the game.
Just be aware, that you will likely attract five'0 when pounding Jolene Righteous into a pulp using bullets and other show effects.

Drain them. Personally I find that the most appropriate thing to do with them.

As suggested, lure them into an alley, use powers until there are enough of them down to make feeding feasible and replenish your pool.
