Hey Game Banshee, it's been awhile, but I need some help. I just recently purchased Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines from Steam because I lost my orgiinal CD long ago and I wanted to play one of my favorite RPGs again. However, after the purchase and the download was complete, there were no game files just a button to run VtMR. I knew Vista wouldn't let me play this game without a headache, but I didn't imagine it would be this hard.
Now whenever I start this program it goes to a black screem, it flashes the word "Loading" and then proceeds to crash. I've scrounged around all sorts of different websites for help, and I've found many suggestions, but none of them seem to work. I've run it in administrater in XP compatability, I've tried 98 ME compatability, I've tried changed the resolution, and I've tried installing the patch, but there are no game files so there is nothing to patch.
This really is quite a quandry, and I could sure use some help. I'm running on a Dell Inspiron with 32-bit Vista. My processer is an Intel Core Duo CPU, and I have 2.00 GB of RAM. My graphics card is a NIVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS, if that helps at all.
Also, my download did stop in the middle, and I had to restart, so is it possible my download just went wonky?

I'd suggest contacting Steam's tech or customer service folks. It certainly sounds like their problem, and they ought to have a Vista fix in place, or (in my personal opinion) refund you your money.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Thanks, Fable. I have contactated Steam, and I am awaiting a reply. It just seems ridiculous to me that I can Starcraft and Warcraft II without a problem, but this game which came out 5 years ago is giving me problems. However, Blizzard did patch those games up the ying-yang.

Obviously something went wrong on the download. You should see the game files under:
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\vampire the masquerade - bloodlines
If you don't, re-install. Right click the file in the STEAM games browser and select "Delete local content". Once it moves to uninstalled, right click again and select "Install"
or...
you could buy it for $5 from direct2drive (Halloween Weekend special) The D2D version is basically the retail version with a CD crack already applied. However, I would only go that route if you can't get your steam version to work.
