CompMod Beta 4.8 + Video footage

Post by Dheu »

I really did want to make Beta 4.7 the last Beta release... but there was a really bad bug reported that i couldn't ignore. Hopefully this will be a "quick" Beta and I will still get an official release out by monday. (IE : this WILL BE the official release baseline unless something else big is reported over the weekend).

CompMod Beta 4.x Patch 8 Uploaded : Downloads ?(VTMB CompMod Home)?

- Fixed fade to black bug when asking Heather to travel with you.
- Fixed combat bug involving Damsel. (When she was a companion she
would break the combat AI)
- Fixed Heather dialog bug were she would have no response under
certain circumstances.
- Fixed VV haven sounds so that she makes noise when talking to her in
the haven.
- Minor grammar fixes to Therese dialog.
- Fixed throwing star showing up in PC mailbox instead of camera
when Mitnick would assign quest.
- Fixed 4.71 "New Game" bug which prevented CompMod from initializing
properly (but ironically old save games would still work).
- Includes Wesps 6.0 binary updates (1.2 Patch no longer needed)

Oh yeah, I put together some Mod footage videos to show off some of the new features:

VTMB Companion Mod : Controls and Combat - YouTube - VTMB Companion Mod : Controls and Combat

Dheu, I was wondering if you could possibly make your compmod compatible with Wesp's newest patch, or even a little closer to the latest one? I'm asking if it's possible. I'm not asking you to do it, yet, just seeing if it's possible.

It would be possible to integrate in the changes from the 6.1 basic patch. It is unlikely that I could intergrate in the changes from the Plus patch.

I'm waiting for 6.2 and then I plan on upgrading the Mod to his latest. The goal is for CompMod 2.0 to be "up to date" when it comes out. I don't know if 6.2 will be Wesp's last patch or not, but it will be my last upgrade effort.

Your mod definitely looks interesting and I'll be sure to try it as soon as you release the last version.

What I'm curious about, if you don't mind me asking, is how did you insert the new audio lines into the game? Rather, how did you get the characters to say new things with their voices?

I don't think that integrating the plus changes would be too difficult. Only the two new items you introduced are problematic, but 6.2 could provide a solution to this.

I doubt 6.2 will be the last patch, but I can't really say until the bug feedbacks are in...

There will always be a bug, somewhere. However, I think between Dheu and Wesp, we can have something that could be better than one mod or the other. And this is exactly what I was looking for, in discussion. And Dheu, you could do an incremental update to even, say 5.9, so when the time comes, you can do another update to 6.x. I'm not saying you should, but trying to give you some thing to try and help you out a little, and to consider. Mainly to consider.

On a side note, it's too bad that Tessmage shut his site down, and stopped all work on the True VTMB mod, I thought it was promising, and also could go somewhere, with some help. But alas, we may never know.

If you want some development in that direction, just play the game with the basic unofficial patch and report if there is something still in there that can't be considered a bugfix or a gameplay independent restoration.

I also like You're 6.1 mod, Wesp, and the compmod, so I can't complain too much. Anyway, I may start a new thread on all of this, at some point in the near future.

Getting back to the point, the compmod is cool, and I'm giving it a go. I just need a little time to get into things. But I still think a few upgrade for it would work quite well.
