Final Moments Of Beckett Glitch *SPOILER*

Post by VelvetVelour »

Hey guys :(
So .. this has happened before.. like a while ago.. but i somehow managed to fix it then but nothing seems to be working this time. What happens is I leave the Ventrue tower after talking to lacroix about the death of the sabbat and that im now heading to the anarchs to make an alliance... which we all know goes awesomly.
I head over there and hear becketts usual cry
"WAIT!!" in which hes SUPPOSED TO come running to me, begging me not to open the sarcophagus
i dont get so lucky this time.... i can HEAR the "wait".. before getting frozen in my tracks.. I turn to see where beckett is only hes a no show and im just stuck in the middle of downtown unable to move or do anything.. and beckett never shows up? can anyone help me, or something?
Ive reloaded past saved games and tried to replay the incident over.. i didnt have noclip or notarget so he knows im there..

Help anyone? ... please?? xxx appreciated..

I've had that happen to me at least once. But in my case it turned out to be a glitch rather than a bug. Try reverting back to a save prior to when you enter the Downtown LA hub.

Yep, it seems it's a known glitch result of lazy programming. I've never had this problem, but there's a guide made by Vampyri Lestat in GameFAQs.com that mentions this issue and I quote here:
The Beckett issue
----------------------

Near the end of the game there is an instance where Beckett will confront you
in the street and have a conversation with you in order to trigger the game to
continue further. It's possible that Beckett won't show up, thus making you
stuck in the game. If this happens reload from a previous save and try again,
hopefully it will work.
So it seems you're not as screwed as you thought, V.V. You know what they say: "Save well, save often". ;)

Then I guess it has something to do with the patches you're using or your video card. :(

OK, short version (and I know this for the 1.2, can't speak for side-effects in higher patches):

The video card seems to have an effect. My latest computer has a really high-end card and I don't get that problem anymore. I used to get it all the time, though. Best solution:

You know roughly where Beckett is going to yell. Stop before that, crouch, turn back to look at the alley, and start inching backwards and sideways towards the end of the street in very small steps with your back to the wall. The threshold for that event is a very narrow corridor. If you land in it, the whole thing will go off without a hitch. If you step through it, you get frozen out as you have described. It's a bit slow, and a bit annoying, but instead of reloading and retrying a dozen times, stop, slow WAYYYYY down, and get through it the first time. In the long run, you'll save time.
