Ming Must Die quest - possible bug? -spoiler-

Post by Smeets »

I am sooo close to finishing this game but I'm stuck (yet again) on something inherently quite simple; for the last part of the "Ming Must Die" quest you have to place the four jade statues on the plinths on which you originally found them, right? Well, does the order in which you place them matter? I've tried placing them in every order imaginable, but I just can't seem to get the cat statue to sit on its plinth! The option to "Give" the cat to the plinth is just grey and doesn't work :( Is anyone else having the same problem? What can I do to fix it?

i had this problem to when i first played it drove me nuts -.- but then i didnt pay much attention to my surroundings.

if you got a save JUST before you pick up the green items would help, get a paper and pen and note down the animal and the style of alter (bottom bit) its on as i havnt played it for awhile i'll give a simple description.

write "green elephant is on diamonds alter"
write "green cat is on twisting alter"

the same with all four then just stick them on the right alter for the right animal and vam..

I KNOW which plinths they go on... the dragon goes on the solid one, the crane on the spiral one, the elephant on the vertical one and the cat on the one with all the circles.

The problem I'm having is that I *can't* place the cat statue on its plinth for some reason, i.e., the game won't let me "give" the cat statue to its plinth (or any other plinths for that matter)! Is there a secret trick or something that I'm missing because this is just ridiculous *shakes head*

Are you using the so called "true" patch? Because if I remember correctly that was a bug it introduced...

I'm currently using the "true" 4.04AT patch and didn't have any problem like this.

Well, Wesp5 is kind of the designated patch guru around here, and if he thinks it's the 'true' patch, then I'd be inclined to guess you're looking at a reinstall to remove that patch, and then start over again (anybody know if Smeets can recover from an old save after an uninstall?)

There are also quite a few people that have cheat-codes to get from one scene to another. This might be a viable option to get through the current situation (anybody?).

Aside from that, I'm afraid I can't offer much else. Sorry.

As far as I know they fixed that issue in the "true" patch but because they never mentioned the bug or the fix in the readme I wouldn't know with of the versions available for download includes the hotfix and which does not. You may try the one from the Tessmage page or if you want to be really sure, download the latest unofficial patch and extract it over your setup which should fix the issue and shouldn't make that much difference that late in the game anyway. Then start from a save game before you entered that temple level...

So I just install the other patch over the 'true' patch? Will it still work? =S

It should work fine but you need to start from an earlier level, maybe even outside the temple, because the level state is saved.
