I'm 19.

Could it be - we as a nation are getting more stupid? Or is it just with the introduction of a masscommunication tool as the Internet that we discover how stupid "we" actually are? :D
I don't think the world got noticably more stupid, but in the past century there has taken place a democratization of means of communication. Up to the start of the 20th century only the educated elite had access to the media (both as contributer and consumer); hence the intellectual level of what was broadcast was way higher. Nowadays the plebs can throw in and demand what they want, hence dragging down the media like a snowboarding polar bear on a melting ice cap.

Yesterday I drank rather much, and I'm just out of bed, so the above paragraph probably is full historical mistakes and doesn't make any sense :(

Well I can't speak for the tech forums, but my SO posts in the Canadian and US News&Politics Usenet groups.... and Oh my.... with many of those people... "stupid" does not even begin to describe it. One guy recently, in the face of all evidence to the contrary, was claiming that climate change (he said "global warming," a misnomer) is caused by the sun, since it is a giant "nuclear weapon nine lights seconds away from Earth"....
It's actually eight light minutes... it would have been easy enough for him to look that up. And that's just for starters where a statement like that is concerned

The same people probably believe the earth is flat too :D

You know, I think it is the latter, I figure the Internet simply makes it easy for us to discover just how stupid the human race really is :p
Plus, kids are reading less and less... I don't think that helps much either.

Oh, and I'm still 39 as well :p

I'm like tottaly 25. And I've been born one day before Syberis. Anyways, being 13 means you're a man already, so watch the excess hair on the chest: Shave it, with wax. Cold wax. And dont scream.

Heh, remember, the thread starter is 12 years old, technically an illegal age to be on a forum for COPPA rules.

 Oh yeah! The thing that says "You must 13 years old or older, or have a parents permission." I blow through those things like crazy. They didn't have those back when I was a teen, so I never had to deal with them. Now I feel old. :(

On topic.. ahem. :) I was born on October the 5th, 1985..

About the decline in overall population intelligence: I completely agree, and if you would like to see how the average North American and Western European teen thinks/writes, just check out the WoW forums @ Blizzard. Oh, the horror
Or as they would say: ZOMFG teh g*y imba horror! NERF! Not that my country is any better off - MoSt TeEnZ HeRe WrItE LiKe ReTaRdS cUz iTz kEwL!

I remember when i was around age 12-13, i met a boy that tried to show off in front of the others by pointing at an airplane in the sky and commenting: wow, that thing must be flying AT LEAST at the speed of light... (my dad being a physics wiz i tried to explain that 1200 km/h are nowhere near 300 000 km/s, and that no solid object could approach such speeds.. i was laughed at :) )
But the top i think was a 12 year old girl that firmly believed that the stars are NEEDLES stuck on the sky - because her ignorant grandmother who still used a horse and plow told her so... :(
