Wierd mail from Gary?

Post by B0r4n »

I got this mail from Gary titled "The Prince has promoted you" or something like that, tho the title has nothing to do with what's in it, at least I think cuz I don't understand it completly...
It's something bout me having to go get a tape, put it in my mailbox and then Gary will send me a photo of Jeanette in return...
Or something like that...
Nothing appeared in my quest log about it tho...
Anyone knows what's it about?

Yup, it's part of the Posters for Your Haven quest.

IIRC, you can get VV, Damsel, Jeanette, and Ming on posters for your pad.

Nothing will appear in your quest log as you gain nothing but posters for doing this. First tape I believe you can find in the chinese theater across from Isaac's shop in Hollywood but you must get the key from him first for the Gargoyal quest otherwise you'll never get in.

VV's poster you can get without doing any of Gary's missions if you happened to do VV's missions exactly as she asked with no human death.

*SPOILER*

Likewise with the key to the chinese theater, the next thing he will want is a CD which is located in Metal Head Industries which you can not get into either unless you have the key from doing A tangled Web quest for another Nos before you find Gary (this one tell you he is in charge of all the network stuff and he'll ask you to set some things up for him which gives you the key)

The other items Gary wants I already had before he asked for them. Jock Shot's Swimsuit Shoot and a blurry photo of a Nos I had found.

What's IIRC?

And it's not possible to get something about it in your quest log? For example where to find the tapes?
Or are we just supposed to know that it's 'a quest' of some sort?

They aren't real quests because you don't earn any money or XP. You will just get decorations for your haven. The emails either tell you where to go or will give a hint of where to go for each item Gary wants.

Right, the quests do no gain you experience, or appear in your journal The are more easter egg type content.

SPOILERS

You can get three posters from Gary - Jeanette, Damsel, Ming

To get Jeanette's you need a copy of Tap Hotel, which can be found in the Chinese Theatre.

To get Damsel's you need a CD you'll find in a safe in Metalhead Industries.

To get Ming's you need to acquire an old video of Imalia, that can be found in a chest directly across from Mercurio's apartment in Santa Monica (in the same main street complex).

VV's poster actually comes from her. She'll give it to you if you do everything right for her (and are not a Nosferatu). If you receive VV's autograph photograph, the poster will soon appear in your haven.

Vv

I have been given the photo on some occasions, but somebody mentioned completing her quests without loss of life - I don't recall ever NOT killing the hunter/stripper (what a character-class!) - I know that you should aim to avoid making a scene or violating the masquerade during that quest and with Hatter, I always let Julius run away, having tricked Hatter, rather than threatened him.

You can also get VV's poster from Gary by putting a picture of a Nos in your mailbox. I think this also gets you a Masq. Redemption.

You just need to make her happy when you do it - kill the hunter without picking up any attention, don't kill Hatter, deal with Julius as you see fit (either killing him or letting him go will net you the same result with her). If you do those things and follow the appropriate dialogue choices (be very nice to her), you should get the poster.

I actually didn't know about Gary's route to getting the picture. That's very interesting. I had wondered what that Nossie picture was for.

VV is thrilled with you if you kill only the stripper/hunter, convincing the other stripper in there to go to another room. Also by closing the windows to the dance rooms and stealing all the money from the machine so the customers go away. No needless death. VV gives you an item to carry, a small picture of herself which you can keep along with your pic of lily and all that, and then eventually a poster of her will appear on your wall. Thing to note is Gary will not ask for an item to give you the VV poster if VV has already given it to you.

did all that

always rob the cash machine, lock down the booths and then get the other girl to leave before terminating the Hunter.
doing it that way a message comes up that there has been 'no loss of innocent life'.
maybe you also need to avoid a ruckus/noise such as using a gun to get max appreciation.
I usually space-bar through familiar dialogue, so I might be more appreciated than I notice - sometimes I get the photo, sometimes not though.

If memory serves, I think you do have to avoid using noisy weapons like guns and Masquerade breaking disciplines.

Yeh she says something like: "you should just feed her, so you avoid making noise. And be carefull when using disciplines too", or something like that anyway...

Well my first time through I had no idea about robbing the cash machine, I closed down the windows but the last one with the fat man is malfunctioning so he kept coming and going. I was in the room which he walks into and thanks to Bloodlines collision area around your character I was stuck in there with him. I thought maybe a good ol punch might at least send him running... what do you know, it killed him. So that brought out the hunter and I took innocent life. Second time through I did it the proper way and used melee attack on her, got the poster.

Another great thing about getting the picture from VV herself, is you can sell it. I got close to $400.00 from Fat Larry.

Comfortable in his skin

You've got to admire Larry for being truly comfortable in his own skin. If you're female, he actually hits on you. Score +15 for tremendous self-confidence.
