That's ok by me, Taco. Nevertheless I don't have ToB, so I can't help you...

Greetings all,

Currently running a solo swashbuckler through SOA & ToB am going to try a f/mu/t next want to run it all the way through BG1, Bg2, and Tob so I can get those dammed golden pantaloons!

Think f/mu/t is only class you can run all the way through all 3 games that would stand a chance. :)
If you know how to play a character you can complete all the games what ever class you have. There are how ever some that are easier than others.... f/m/t is one another is kensai/mage and monks are also quite good to solo, but you cannot use one in BG1 so....

I almost did it with an undead hunter, but failed to kill Melisaan, so that might also be a good class to use..... wild mage is also supposed to be quite easy..... I also got to Baltazar with an assasin... so as you can see is there many classes that you can use to solo the games, and everyone has a different strong point that can be used.

I think that you will find that just about any character can be solo'd all the way thru the series. Not necessarily with the Ascention mod on, but I would think that the right character in the right hands would be able to defeat all challenges that come up in the game. It's just a matter of tactics and knowing how to use your character's strength's and weaknesses. Why have/do I solo so much? I've beaten the game with just about every party combonation I can think of. I've beaten the game with every NPC you can pick up within the game as well as several run thru's with custom parties - groups of 4, 2, 3, and a full set of 6 custom designed members - lol that was REALLY easy. Just do a forum search on "solo" and you'll get heaps of matches and accounts of ppl soloing thru the game with just about every class. Some very good reads. This being one of them where Two took a bard all the way thru SOA and TOB with no reloads. I think he had to finally do it at one stage.......... but it wasn't until he was well and truly into TOB. T'was a great effort :) http://gamebanshee.com/forums/showthrea ... no+reloads

I just remembered another great tactic against mind flayers, the ring of free action stops their psionic blast from pinning you to the ground. You can continue to move around. You can still get your brains sucked out, but at least you continue to be mobile.
i hope you dont mind ihtafir me asking this in your thread. can F/M/T get their HLA? i havent got high enuff lvl yet...im usin Vic, edwin, and korgan in my party as well...

Yes they can get some HLA's but not all. You hit the Xp cap before your able to get level 8 and 9 spells so that all the mage HLA's are out. However one of the forum regulars (at least he used to be) Sabre actually created a script that removes the TOB Xp cap and enables your F/M/T or F/M/C to get the mage HLA's. His site is found here: http://www.users.bigpond.com/qtnt/BGII%20patches.htm

Is Sabre still around? I've been gone from the boards for so long I haven't seen any of his posts recently.

Yes, Sabre still pops in every now and then. Very infrequently.

Solo charecters.

Much agreed that you can complete the game with any solo class or combination thereof. With Ascension on not sure about that, this is my 1st time through with that on so I'll let you know how it turns out with my swashbuckler. :)

Playing BG1 then importing to BG2 would be different because your limited on choosing classes with no kits why I was thinking of trying a f/mu/t. Want to do that least once so I can get those dang golden pantaloons. Might just import level 1 charecter from BG1 into BG2 and try it. Be interesting to see if THAT can be done. <g>. Betcha Irenicus's dungeon be a whole lot tougher then.

Noted Two's effort of playing with zero deaths and zero reloads. Think it's impossible maze etc. However starting fresh from BG2 should be able to get QUITE far without resting at all. My swashie has completed watchers keep and every side quest up to underdark in under 30 days game time without trying, could have done it in far shorter time if was actually attempting too. Its great seeing how other folks raise the bar gives little old me something to shoot for.

IIRC you can choose any of the kits allowed 4 ur class when u import a char from BG1 to bg2.... not completely sure but I'm pretty sure that is the case....

Yes, you get your HLA's. Actually, you get more. You start getting HLA's at just under 3,000,000 experience points. That is around 13/12/14. You also get a HLA every time you level up in any of the classes. If two level up at once, you get two. Playing solo with the XP cap removed, that's a whole lot of HLA's.

The only warning is don't bother with the extra spell until you get your first at that level. If you take an extra 7th or 8th level spell, you don't actually get it until you can cast one normally. I don't imagine the 10th level spells will do you any good either as you don't have a 9th level slot to memorize it.

Regarding the F/M/T solo.

This is my favorite solo. I play a Kensai/Mage/Theif. There is a lot of cheese for Kensai/Mage's and Kensai/Theif's so why not combine them. Nothing like backstabbing while improved invisible with Kai! And if I get caught, Stoneskin and Mirror Image.

If you check out Xyx's Spell guide, there is some good cheese in there about how to STAY invisible and keep on backstabbing. I can't remember which spell it was though.

Regarding solo.

I usually play semi-solo. I play solo-until I rescue Imoen. Then I remake her into a Sorcerer and play with just the two of us. Why? Because I am part-god, and all the other NPC's aren't. Usually by the time I rescue her I am over 3,000,000 xp, but I leave her at the 1,200,000 I find her at. Then we keep on leveling up together. I am thinking about picking up Saravok in ToB, then we can be the godly trio. Kind of like the 3 amigos, Olay.

This may not be the best way to kill adamantite golems but it is kind of cool. Found out while using keldorn. He got poisoned from their cloud and started taking damage, but fo every point of damage he took the golem took five because of his sword. So the idea is to have a fireshield up and let yourself be poisoned.
