fighter/mage/thief solo

Post by Ihtafir »

I'm soloing the game with an elf fighter/mage/thief (11/12/14), and everything was going allright (defeating Thax was difficult, but not impossible), but then I met an adamantite golem... it was painful! :( My proficiencies are: longsword ++, hammer ++, two weapons style +++. (blade of roses +3, ras +2). Any idea to beat them?

Hmm, I'm not sure where you are in the game, but some of the adamantium golems can be caught on doorways and killed with ranged weapons. I think you need +3 and up to hit them, so if you can get them stuck and use Melfs Minature Meteors (I think), the throwing axe in the temple district, or that throwing dagger (firetooth?). If you're forced to melee them, stoneskin, equip your best weapon, and pray. :)
If I asked, would you answer? Its your problem. Its a deep, deep problem. I have no way to ask about that... I have no elegant way of stepping into your heart without tracking in filth. So I will wait. Someday, when you want to tell me, tell me then. -Bleach

Aginst almost all golems, all you need is a fence and a good supply of Minute Meteors and then your set to bring down any foe :D , if no fence is availabel use a wall of critters :D

*** Slight Spoilers ***

I'm currently soloing another F/M/T myself (again :P ) I find that the best way to kill them is to either use a stone skin and use something like the flail of ages and the warhammer that gives a big bonus against giantkin (both can be found in Nalia's keep), or the sling of Everard (sp?) It's a +5 sling that can be bought from one of the bonus merchants for around the $30 000 mark (depending on your charisma).

You've got proficency points in 2 weapon style and in hammer, just equip yourself up with 2 hammers and use a couple of stone skins. The flail of ages can be a major help with this character when going thru solo due to the "slow" feature that it packs. Slowing down heavy hitters like that can be a huge help. As well as the elemental damage the flail does can bypass certain natural or spell immunities some creatures have against physical damage.

Use either 2 hammers, or take advantage of the bad AI and get them stuck in a doorway and either pelt them with the meteors (takes a lot of them) or the +5 sling.

Yes... I forgot that hammer. It seems to be a good solution.

F/M/T is a nice class, isn't it? What kind of strategies do you use while soloing with this class? I cast a stoneskin; then haste, draw upon holy might, sun fire (what it is as helpful as the Flail of Ages)and start chopping. Melf minute meteors and magic missiles are essential, of course. The first thing I do against a magic user is backstabb him. Can you give me new ideas?

IIRC, it was Bruce Lee who pointed out here that you could back stab with Staff of the Ram, run, hide in shadows, back stab and repeat the process. I guess you can do that with a solo F/M/T. At higher levels, setting spike traps and UAI are just awesome.

I honestly can't remember. :)

The CLUA codes are:

staf21 - Staff of The Ram +4
staf22 - Staff of The Ram +6

For the +6, I think you need ToB installed.

Backstab damage with it is around 200 - 300; instant kills. :D

Watcher's Keep
Where is the Staff of the Ram?

The Staff of the Ram is on the fourth level of Watcher's Keep, with Saladrex the Red Dragon. You have to kill him to get it. Giving it to your low level char in Athkathla using SK is just too ....Unbalancing.. :) .. In the normal course of events, you would probably get it in the begining of TOB, or the end of SOA if you do watchers keep..

Another option..
I haven't got ToB...

Could I make a suggestion? Why don't you change your prof to Katana instead of WarHammer using something like SK, and go get Celestial Fury? You really don't need the Staff of the Ram if you have this, plus you can use your off hand too...
CF is *essential* for the solo F/M/T - the most damaging single handed bladed weapon in SOA..and at your level, it should be relatively easy. Search the forum for "Guarded Compound" and you should get a zillion tips on defeating those chars..plus using CF and Dakkon's Zerth blade, you would have +1 to AC, and extra low level spells....

Yes, it's another possibility. Mmm... Celestial Fury + Dakkon's or Crom Faeyr + Equalizer?? Defeating the chars at Guarded Compound won't give me problems, I think... I defeated the great Shadow Dragon!! :D

The shadow dragon is easy compared to the guarded compound IMO, with all the cheese availabel for the dragon and you can use none really in the guarded compound...... it's too bad. I like CHEESE :D

Yes it is :) I found it to be by far the easiest class to solo for the first time. I've also done SOA with a monk, fighter/mage (dual), beserker/mage (dual), sorc, and this is the 2nd or 3rd time I've solo'd using a F/M/T. I've also started using a bard, got fairly far, but it's just not my type of character.............. If you into powergaming then ** slight spoilers ** using the ring of a gaxx is a must with the boots of speed. Your regeneration rate is insane along with the immunity to poison and disease (damn greater mummies  ). Stoneskin is excellent with this character for when your going melee, backstabbing those mages can also be a HUGE advatage. Where abouts are you in the game? I just wiped out everything in the underdark.............. When I know where you are I'll be able to give you a bit more specific advice ;)

lol I think I've played this too much, I seem to know where EVERY trap is in the game and exactly what to use up against each creature. I even have a set motion of events as soon as I get out of Irenicus's dungeon so that I'm up and running with a heap of money and the best gear there is ASAP.

I'm still doing sidequests (Nalia's Keep, no problem there). But... what did you do against mindflayers at the underdark?! Can't cast chaotic comands!! :(

Mind flayers arn't always that much of a prob :) The boots of speed and backstabbing usually works very well. The wand of cloud kill takes out all those umber hulks that tend to be around.........

Solo F/M/T Ascension.

Greetings all,

Currently running a solo swashbuckler through SOA & ToB am going to try a f/mu/t next want to run it all the way through BG1, Bg2, and Tob so I can get those dammed golden pantaloons!

Think f/mu/t is only class you can run all the way through all 3 games that would stand a chance. :)
