Is this something on TV which was shown to English only speaking people who cannot understand something a bit more complicated and sophisticated? :rolleyes:

Um I think the answer would be a resounding yes..
"Flash Gordon has been an American icon since the 40's . Our parents and grandparents read in the "Flash Gordon Comics" fantasies which would become history in the 60's and 70's.

@Scayde:
This isn't about the great pulp sci-fi serial comic or the old black-and-white movies, but the velveeta-ridden, Queen-soundtracked movie with Max von Sydow, Timothy Dalton, Melody Anderson, Brian Blessed, Peter Wyngarde, Sam J. Jones and the super-yummy Ornella Muti.

In sheltered Scayde's defense, their is some evolution between the two - albeit more camp and tongue-in-cheek.

Its the All-American Hero thing.

"He's riding a Birdman rocket-cycle!"

"Watch me. Now, match him... like this!"
"Greater love hath no man than this, that he lay down his pants for his friends."

Flash Gordon is a Christmas event in our house.

This is so wonderful, I'm beginning to cry.... :D A Flash Gordon thread!!!

Frogus, you are the best. :) I'm going to run out and get a new copy of that movie. :cool:

Ming was deliciously evil. Aura was deliciously lovely. And Flash was deliciously heroic! I liked Ming's disaster buttons. Quite cool. :D
