I know what you mean about Wyrd Sisters - the witches never really did it for me. I much preferred the city watch and Death ones.Originally posted by C Elegans
@Astafas: I have only read one book by Pratchett, and I didn't like it.
After a while the humour can become a little tiring.
Er...we are discussing Henry James, right?Originally posted by mental_nomad
Ok...
First..IF all you see is the humor you are missing the bulk of his style. It is stealth literature. He uses the fantasy and comedic genre only as a vehicle to tell very serious and very wise stories. About humankind. About what is real under the filters we put up in front of our conciousness. And as has been said..A feeling person looks at life and cries and a thinking person looks and laughs.

Whats the one called in which the wizards accidently created Earth. Pratchett collaborated it with a scientific author. There are two books in that series, and I think it just came out too.![]()
Just need the names...![]()
I don't doubt it for a second, he manages to convey his ideology fairly well. I found his writing entertaining and amusing, there are very few books and films which i really rate as deep, mostly i just end up concluding the producers are egotistical or pretentous, very few break through mediocrity to become anything over average. Pratchett (from the one novel of his i have read) seems to be quite impressive, not quite a mythical figure but better than most who attempt such thingsOriginally posted by mental_nomad

I would say that on a comedic level they are similar, their wits were probably equal, however Adams wasn't half as prolific.Lastly...to everyone who tries to compare him to Douglas Adams..or thinks he boring...no way..not even in same ballpark.....only so much as parody is concerned. And if you think it is boring...sorry but you missed the point. Read him later perhaps in your life.
