Just the one, AFAIK

This Is Hardcore (album) is good, Different Class is a bit more upbeat, We Love Life (latest) is a bit more laid back.

Supergrass and Charlatans are also quite well known here. British music generally receives much attention is Sweden, we Swedes seem to have a soft spot for British culture. (Sweden is also the country where British comedy is most popular.)

I think quite a few Swedish bands have been coming over here recently as well... The Hives, Royksopp (I think they are both Swedish), I'm sure there are a few more as well...

The Hives are Swedish, Röyksopp are Norvegian...a weird band name, a röyksopp is one of those mushrooms that leaves a cloud of spore-smoke if you stomp on them.

the gorrilaz are only really 'commercial' in that they've somehow sold a lot of records - mainly due to sensible choices of singles to release - but they're pretty good nonetheless. 'clint eastwood' was sheer class, and i love the whole cartoon/anonymous thang.

no-doz is a powerful thing. i threw up 3 times that night, and pissed about every 10 minutes, what was funny was that a friend that did the same thing had a physical at 8:00 that morning. i wonder what the doctor thought.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up... You know, whenever there are a few bands from the same kinda place around at once, the music press makes a big thing of the "Scandinavian invasion" (plus many bad Viking jokes) or whatever...

I didn't know that about Röyksopp, I haven't actually heard any of their music either, but I've heard good things about them.

@Tammy We'll have our retribution and send S-Club 7 over there if you're not careful!

@Nippy I think the Avalanches album works well as a whole package, maybe rather than isolated songs. Gorillaz are okay, I'm not particularly into them.

@Robnark you don't think the commercial success of Gorillaz might have something to do with the involvement of the high-profile Damon Albarn, meaning they probably got attention they wouldn't have done if they were all unknown? (Not that their songs aren't good in themselves, but I bet it helped...)

Edit: Elbow are another good, fairly new British band

i don't think they've quite hit the commercial mark yet, their next album i'm sure will make them too commercial/massproduced.
but i really like the gorillaz, i can't even tell you how many years ago i heard this album, 3 maybe 4 it seems like

frankly, I find listening to people name bands that I've never heard of boring, so I won't bother, but you can just all believe me that I am into obscure bands and act suitably impressed from now on

@Georgi, I am into a load of the same bands as you (with exception to Embrace, Badly Drawn Boy and Belle & ****ing Sebastien...****s all) anyway you might be interested in the packet from some bangers in France about a year ago

The Avalanches album was quality, but a bit to much like those 'I Love 1973' shows for me...anyway, it was cool I guess...

The Gorillaz...I haven't heard any of their stuff, but I have (only since last week) been converted to Del Tha Funky Homosapien and Dan The Automator (the other two thirds of gorillaz). Their album '3030' is a work of genius. It's incredible...it's rap, but even if you don't like rap (as you can well imagine a fan of Gorky's and SFA wouldn't) it will expand your mind. It's the best hiphop album ever ever ever...*
Will buy as much of Del Tha Funky Homosapiens stuff as possible on monday...am hooked. Have listened to that record about 100 hours straight now...

@Frogus: you betcha boyo. their new album is a bit inconsistent, but 'the turnaround' track can make all but the most arthiritic or deaf people get up of their ar$e and shake it like only an adolescent white male can

not sure if i'll be able to get their new single in town though, there're sweet F all decent record shops

oh, and 3030 is a damn fine album, really fresh.

and if anyone has a chance, listen to Amon Tobin's album, 'supermodified'. i finally got it yesterday (along with metal gear solid 2 and icewind dale - goodbye social life

) and it's damn fine

Apparently it is "Chilled out house" or something like that

I have also been hearing good things about them/him/her

If anyone likes this kind of thing be sure to check out Zero 7 and Bent, both laid back and groovy baby
