Piggy Bottom

Post by Gwalchmai »

So, two weekends ago, I got up about midnight to use the facilities. I was blithely doing my business when I heard the backyard fence move. I thought, “wind?” and a couple of boards from the shed I am building also fell. But I really didn’t hear the wind. Thinking it might be a clumsy burglar, I turned out the light and looked out the window. A black shape was in the trash can, tearing at an empty bag of cat food. I thought, “Dog?” but then several other black shapes joined it. I heard the grunting, and knew what it was.

I woke my wife, and we went to the back door and turned on the porch light. There was a herd of about a dozen javalina (Collard Peccary) eating the cat food on the porch, and the light didn’t bother them in the least. They were grunting and knocking things over and having a great time. I grabbed my camera and took a couple of shots through the glass, without using the flash. I knew these shots wouldn’t come out, so I put the flash on, guessed at the focus, and opened the door. The javalina scattered away, and I only got a picture of the slowest one running away. This is the picture. Too bad you can’t smell their musk. They are really amazing critters. :)

A skiperkee (sp) is a type of dog bred in the southern untied states. By looking at it, you'd swear it was a pig bred with a dog of some sort. they're really loyal pets, but loud and mean if you get them pissed off. My friend has two of them.

@josh: We don't? No that's right most don't visit they're part of the SYM population.

@Alienbob: so the dictionary entry should read like this:

collared peccary
n.
A small wild hog (Tayassu tajacu) with a range from the southwest United States to northern Argentina, having a gray and black coat with a white band from the back to the chest. Also called javelina or Alienbob.

Alienbob
n.
A mean hairy pig. Also know as javelina or collared peccary.

I heard GruntBoy is moving to Gwal's house after hearing about this latest development.

Poor pigs!
Come not between the Witch King and his prey, or he will not slay thee in thy turn, but will bear thee away to the houses of lamentation, beyond all darkness, where thy flesh shall be devoured, and thy shrivelled mind be left naked to the lidless Eye.
