Beating the *beefed* Abazigal (post your victories)

Post by Quitch »

Have you beaten Dave G's "beefed" version of Abazigal? Post your party and victory tactics here for others to revel in your greatness and master of cheese :)

Here's mine

Rough party composition:

Skyhawk - Ranger PC
Sarevok
Jaheira
Mazzy
Imoen
Aerie

We beef BEFORE entering (standard stuff, Stoneskins, Hardiness etc.)

Upon entering the area I immediately fanned out my three frontliners, Skyhawk, Sarevok and Jaheira. Mazzy moved up to stand in the narrow bit which links the entrance area to the main area. Imoen and Aerie cast Simulacrum.

Frontliners moved to engage the top Drake, which just so happens to be the one that blasts your Mages with Cone of Cold. Mazzy used the Gesen bow to support. Both Aerie's used the Clay Golem Manual to keep Abazigal busy, while one Imoen got onto Time Stop, and the other probably did something useful :)

When she'd used Time Stop, I got her to rush out and Imprison the bottom Drake, then blasted Pragmatic Spray across the other two (leaving alone the one my fighters were taking on). Then ran like hell as Time Stop ran out.

Now it's a simple matter of my frontliners working their way through the three remaining Drakes (all of which were in various states by now). Tamah is wandering forward, looking useless, casting a useless spell, and wandering off. Yay Tamah! Abazigal is wondering why these Golems are causing him so many problems.

With the Drakes down, we close in on Tamah, then of course the Greater Whirlwinds come into play. God knows what my mages were doing, twiddling their thumbs I think. Do't want my sis getting hurt.

Anyway, Tamah tries to run, and unsuprisingly, fails and dies. Bwhahahahaha! If only ego was a weapon.

Aerie wanders over to Abazigal, taps him on the shoulder and mazes him. I then proceed to run through the chamber killing all the Ice Salamanders.

Then I head off into the corner and we have a nap. I didn't become party leader for nothing you know :) . I even saved. Woo!

We're awake, and of course Abazigal is slightly ticked off. Mages get to work on Simulacrum again, while my frontliners beat Abzigal down (in the middle of course, nothing worse than getting stuck at the sides). Only now does he decide that turning into a large powerful Dragon would be a good idea. This is the future? Dear Lord.

Anyway, now it's simply a matter of keeping the guy too busy to heal. Mages are using Remove Magic (four mages, some of them will work :) ) and then Lower Resistance and blasting him should they get the chance. If you get in trouble, you can always Maze him again :) . Anyway, each time he wing buffets a couple of my guys away, another couple move in (having recovered from their wing buffets). When I have him down to Badly Injured I close in with all the frontliners and hit him with a mass Greater Whirlwind. Heal? You want a chance to Heal? HAH!

Abazigal bites the dust, I feel smug, notice that both of my Simulacrum's seem to be missing, and leave, feeling slightly less smug.

Lessons learnt: Hardiness and Critical Strike are also useful abilities, though nothing beats Greater Whirlwind eh. Never upgrade beyond Clay in the Golem manual. The rest are useless. The Big Metal Unit is too big to be of much use IMO, though its weapon is sweet.

Nothing beats playing to win. Sleeping in the Dragons Lair while he's mazed. Now that's cheese :) . Good thing I didn't have a real thief, I could have trapped his maze location.........nah, I'm not that bad :)

Boyeah! TAKE THAT YOU ISOLENT WRYM!!!!!

Basicaly what i did was have my bard and my clerc buffed to the maxminum bard had axe of unyeilding and the fail of age +4 with all the head expect for the electrical. Then vicy had the crom fayer and a very nice shield that gave her a lots of bonus. so basicaly when i entered i had vicy use helm of valhor and cast a simscreaum and jan useing the clay golem book to summon some folders send them alhead then had edwin and jan project image bam into 4 project image each for total of 8 high level mages. level 20+ anyway i had every single one of the project image blast the second dragon while i used the siscreaum and golem to keep abi bussy and in a conner some where while vicy and bard was owning the lessor wrym then after blasts after blast after blasts, about 3 time i finaly fried the main dragon and pissed off abi so he transformed into a dragon, ohhhh yeah its time to play! so i proceded to owz him one on one he's not that bad. even with all the wryms, WHAT IMHO made the fight so darn hard was that second dragon omg, the wrym dies fast and was no problem but the second dragon all i can say is NASTY, i don't have hard time with dragon but i couldn't do feeblemindness on abi at all and the second dragon just resist everything i hurl at her, even lowern magic resistance didn't help much at all! i even casted a couple spellstrike and breaches from wands and couple pierce shield still didn't help she just refused to die.

but in the end i just got very very lucky that time i doubit i could do it again untill i get much better at the game, i'm decent but not as good as some of the uber people around here, i have soloed a few class but NEVER a mage, so hmm that's the next thing i got to do so i can REALY learn the spell system and good spells etc..

to summary it up i was just very very very lucky, i haven't beat the other bhaalspawn but i would probably rate this one the toughest one, but then again i haven't tried the other improved bhaalspawn, the demogroggy *shungs* i just spiketraped him to death.

hmm and this is with a 4 people party i wonder how a 6 people party would fare? one that used couple of xp exports, like the endless firegiant spawn, and the xenocide in seadi's lair to get them all to maxi level. probably easier.

I'm afraid I can't take credit for Maze. The last time I posted up an Abazigal thread, someone said they'd had luck using Maze. Up until then I'd never used Maze.

Unlike them however, I only like to maze him when everything else is dead.

The spreading the fighters out instantly, was also someone elses idea. I used to keep them near the Mages as defence.

Abazigal is one nasty Dragon when beefed though. Much tougher than the other Dragons. His helpers aren't too tough though. Once I had come up with that was of dealing with them, it worked, every time.

Let's introduce our heroes shall we ?

Turambar - Elven Archer Extraordinaire
Aerie
Sarevok
Imoen
Jaheira
Minsc

Out of all my charachters, Minsc is just such USELESS DEAD FRIGGIN WEIGHT. Sarevok is a much better tank and for some friggin reason, Minsc never makes a save.

So the party beefs up and moves in. Cheesed all my clerics with 3x armor of faith. Aerie chained cont with 3 implosions. Imoen had one with 3 Mordenkain swords. Jaheira iron skins/death wards/aure of flaming death/chaotic commands and then x-forms into a fire elemental. We go in and get rushed. Aerie vaporizes a drake from the get-go, and the next one flies into the wall of resistance that 3 floating swords of doom offer. Abazigal comes in, does his stupid little speech, and it's on !

Imoen insta-casts improved haste on Turambar, and Turmabar activates Critical Strike. He drops the third drake that comes into view with a flurry of shots that deal ~60 damage a shot. Then another drake hits the ground. Abazigal tries to come after me, but wait, what's this ? He can't catch up ? HECK NO ! Boots of Speed, Taralash and Amulet of Cheetah Speed, make me the fastest elf alive ! So I'm leading Abazigal on a merry chase, taking pot shots at him. Meanwhile, I told Imoen, Aerie, Jaheira, Sarevok and Minsc to melee Tamah, and get away from the Drakes and A-spazz-igal. So I go over and check, and HOLEE ****, Imoen's unconscious/out of stone skins/her protection from magical weapons just wore off/ her double strength fireshields just aren't deterring the damn dragon ! So I look for my nearest conscious charachter. JAHEIRA ! I tell her to get her fire elementally ass over there, and whirlwind the *****. She does as I say, and in no time, the purple one drops. But I come back... And what is this ? My charachter is 3/4 dead ! And surrounded !

Imoen makes a desperate time stop. She improves her alacrity and now that is just opening up a can of worms. An abyssal can of worms; because now she drops 2 dragon's breaths, 4 abi dalzims and then proceeds to tenser x-form, and stab the bastard wyverns in the eyes. All the wyverns now drop, but A-spazz-igal is merely down to "badly injured". Aerie drops a time stop right next to him. She activates a girdle of fortitude for 18 con. Puts her 19 str belt back on. Next she fires a trigger which has stone skin/mirror image/ draw upon holy might. Then she casts tensers x-formation. Then I get real cheesy here folks, I drop the shield in her off-hand and put on Club of detonation +5. So basically she now has AC -8 , shielded better than a NORAD bunker, and can smack Minsc into next Tuesday. And then she shows Spazzy, what 25 in all 3 physical stats can do to someone unprepared for it. She guzzles a potion of speed, and now uses her 3 attacks per round, and proceeds to whack the sh1znit out of everything in sight ! Time stop ends, and Abazigal's mortal death turns him into a dragon.

Arite, now the real fun begins. Turambar goes into critical strike mode, and Sarevok, Minsc, Jaheira surrounds Scales after Aerie and Imoen got buffeted into West Africa. The melee meat-heads all whirlwind, and Turambar is landing straight 60's, I disrupt his trigger, have Aerie and Imoen come back, and he drops before he ever got a chance to try a second wing buffet.

I had Sarevok, Minsc, PC (berserker/cleric), Jaheira, Imoen and Nalia.

Prior to entering, I had death ward, chaotic commands (note that Tamah uses psionic blasts), improved hasted all the warriors (with 2 mages you can afford to do so), PROTECTION FROM ENERGY (casted just before entering), spell traps and shield of the archons up. Truesight just before entering.

I didn't expect Abazigal to spawn at the entrance. The unimproved one always waited at the center of the room.

Anyway upon entering the map, the 4 drakes rushed the party at the entrance and Tamah was approaching. Summoned a planetar to keep Abazigal busy but that was a mistake at it didn't last too long. Fortunately kept him busy enough to turn the drakes into shishkebob. Frost salamanders only seem to spawn as you expose the map and Abazigal is still alive.

Tamah's attacks were pretty much shrugged off and the party pretty much stay near the entrance. All the breath attacks did little to no damage due to protection from energy.

Minsc does mostly sniping with bows while Jaheira, Sarevok and the PC meelees the enemy.

I shold have used smite to blow Abazigal away from the entrance but the party dealt him the blow to change to dragon and he transformed right at the entrance and was blocking Minsc and Nalia.

He came down on Minsc a bit. He imprisoned Minsc as he was given the fatal arrow. Afterwards the solar summoned the party.

After going back to the map, had to deal with Tamah. Didn't want to stand and fight. Just kept retreating and trying to heal. Did little damage to the party though and had Imoen cast freedom from a scroll for Minsc.

So it's agreed then, Tamah is the most pathetic excuse for a Dragon the world has ever seen :)

Imagine how much harder it would be if you had Draconis and Abazigal in that room, and Tamah outside !

Not forgetting that Draconis summons Invisible Stalkers.

Prehaps we should suggest that the Ice Salamanders charge along with everything else?

Oh, and someone should stop rests in this area :)

If you download the improved abazigail patch i have heard that he can be unbeatable, such as when he´s near death he takes around 200+ damage but is still only near death... is it really worth to download?
I wager the turnip market is making a killing today!

Actually shadow that's a problem with the game not the patch.

If a creature is supposed to do something special around death (say like the Trolls collapse, or Abazigal speaks), and you are doing an excessive amount of damage, then this special event will fail to active.

The secret is to simply ease off hitting the enemy character.
