Just Finished ToB Some comments *SPOILERS

Post by sonny »

At Approximately 12:45 AM EST, today July 13, I finished ToB for the first time :D

I sat there for over an hour feeling sad that it was over :( and at the same time thinking about when I start a new game, all the stuff I want to do.
I tried to come up with words that would best describe this game for me (awesome, great, best, etc.) and since they all applied, the best way I could sum it up was "I had one h**l of a good time playing this game" and am really looking forward to playing it again maybe with a few mods added.

My favorite area was Watchers Keep. I spent over 2 1/2 hours trying to figure out the order for the switches on that damn machine, because I was not paying enough attention to the little hints I got. And I'm embarrassed to say that I fooled around with those torches for a long time before I finally noticed the colored tiles :o
And then to top it all off, I found out to late (had already deleted that save) that the colored globes have spells in them. Had three red ones left and when I was in Saradush, I was fooling around with one and it shot off a fire spell. Watchers Keep taught me a very important lesson (look at everything, more then once, and read everything very carefully)
The only thing I questioned was why they give you all those great weapons and items so late in the overall game. Balance I guess.

All said, when you put SoA & ToB together and play them in sequence, you could not ask for a better game with so many hours of fun. When I made my last save I had 121 game days and over 6 months real time in this game. Slow I know. :D

Tonight I will start on Planescape: Torment. I've heard a lot about it. So that means I'll be leaving you guys at this forum alone for a while and I'll miss you guys. :( After PT I plan on starting BG & BGII again, so I'll be back pestering you again.

Thanks everyone for all your help with this truly great game.
Sonny :) :)

Welcome to the club! :D

That's exactly how I felt after finishing ToB.
You can pester GB about PS:T as well.
Sage plays a paladin,
because other classes would be frowned upon for laying their hands on a wounded companion

Congratulations on completeing the Baldur's Gate Saga.

And don't worry about it, I started playing the game when it came out, in 1998, and I'm still not tired of it. You'll be going through withdrawals by next week.

Good going, Sonny. Fantastic game, isn't it? I can still remember the fantastic hopes BG2 and PS:T created when they first showed up. Some felt that RPGs had finally matured, and that at least one mainstream company was willing to put its money behind quality product because it sold very well. Unfortunately, it soon became clear Fargo only saw RPGs as a cash cow for other games, and nobody followed up on the idea; but we still have these really great titles to look back. Plus, of course, all the incredible work done by modders that keep it all alive, fresh and new.

PS:T is different, but just as good, and possibly better. Both games are magnets. They'll keep drawing you back. :)
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Yes it is. I would sit there in my den playing and felt like I was a part of it. I know it turned me in to a die hard RPG'er. My grandson said it would :D

When he got me started, he said about what you did about the older games, and how these compies would suck as much money as they could out of a game and then give up on the RPG's. He mentioned a company named Sir-Tech Software and Origin as two that mad him mad.
Other then the Wizardry games he gave me, he gave me a list of others and told me "PoP", the old ones are the best, the classics. And he did say, "Of the ones on the list BG, BGII and PS: T are the best, play them first.

Started PS: T last night and have already posted questions :o , but I can already tell this is going to be one heck of a ride.

looks like I may follow

I play BG so often, my wife just calls it 'monsters' : I sometimes come in from the office and she'll say - "dinner isn't ready, why not go and play monsters to de-stress yourself for a few minutes"

sounds like planescape may be worth a look - I really enjoy 'monsters' and have been through it many times in many ways tasting different varieties of cheese in the process, but I could do with a fresh challenge. I've been using Roman legions to wipe out barbarians as a change, but an entirely new game would be welcome.

for die-hard RPGers - I would recommend "Vampires the Masquerade : Bloodlines" if you haven't tried it.
"All the world's a stage and all the men and women merely players"
